Climate Change and Health

Climate change is not only an environmental crisis; it is a health crisis. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, food insecurity, air pollution, and water scarcity directly affect the health and well-being of communities across Africa. The most vulnerable, children, women, the elderly, and those already living in poverty are often hit the hardest.

At Medireach Africa, we approach climate change through the lens of the social determinants of health. We recognize that environmental shocks compound existing health challenges such as malnutrition, infectious diseases, and poor access to care.

Our Climate & Health program focuses on:

  • Community Resilience – Supporting communities to prepare for and adapt to climate-related health risks.
  • Food & Nutrition Security – Promoting climate-smart agriculture and nutrition programs that protect families from hunger and malnutrition.
  • Clean Water & Sanitation – Expanding access to safe water and sanitation to reduce disease outbreaks.
  • Health System Preparedness – Strengthening health facilities to withstand climate shocks and respond to emergencies.
  • Awareness & Advocacy – Educating communities on environmental health risks and influencing policies that protect people and the planet.
  • Sustainable Practices – Encouraging renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly solutions that benefit both health and the environment.

By integrating health and climate action, we aim to build healthier, safer, and more sustainable communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the face of climate change.
