Gender-Based Violence remains one of the most urgent yet hidden health and human rights challenges across Africa. Beyond the immediate physical and psychological harm, GBV contributes to poor health outcomes, exposing survivors to HIV, unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, chronic illnesses, and trauma. The roots of GBV are deeply tied to social determinants of health, including poverty, gender inequality, cultural norms, and lack of social protection.
At Medireach Africa, we work to break the cycle of violence by combining healthcare, psychosocial support, and community empowerment.
Our GBV program focuses on:
- Prevention & Awareness – Educating communities to challenge harmful gender norms and promote equality and respect.
- Survivor Support – Providing access to medical care, trauma counseling, safe spaces, and legal referrals.
- Economic Empowerment – Linking survivors, especially women and girls, to livelihood opportunities that reduce dependency and vulnerability.
- Health System Strengthening – Training healthcare workers to provide survivor-centered, confidential, and compassionate services.
- Advocacy & Partnerships – Working with governments, faith leaders, and community groups to strengthen protection systems and enforce policies against GBV.
Through a holistic approach, we aim not only to respond to cases of violence but also to tackle the root causes, restore dignity to survivors, and build safer, healthier communities for all.
